According to Alonzo Miller, WCSHC’s first endeavor in strawberry production exceeded expectations. Allen McReynolds, Johnathan Evans, and Marlon Todman, Jr. transplanted strawberry plants in late November 2023. They used a double-spacing system. This method allows double the number of plants per row. Additionally, they twice applied one cup of miracle growth per plant (ten ounces). The strawberry transplants responded positively to this concoction. They irrigated plants as needed. The strawberries started spreading in mid-February and setting fruit, enabling the team to begin harvesting on April 1, 2024. WCSHC’s high tunnel system will offer additional opportunities to produce alternative crops in the fall of 2024.
