The Winston County Self Help Cooperative (WCSHC), Mississippi Producers Agricultural Group (MPAG), and Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) united for a powerful display of collective action at the Christian Methodist Episcopal Annual Church Conference. Our combined efforts provided crucial assistance to individuals and families, ensuring the preservation of their natural resources.
This year’s conference convened at the Landers Conference Center in Southaven, MS. The Fourth Episcopal District of the CME Church consolidated under one umbrella for their annual conference. WCSHC staff member Frank Taylor delivered a presentation on delinquent property taxes. Frank reiterated the urgent need to pay 2021 delinquent property taxes before August 13, 2024. The online tax auction will occur on Monday, August 2024.
Mrs. Joyce Lindsey, a farmer from Tate County, echoed the need for individuals to pay their property taxes. “We know families and individuals who lost their farmsteads because they did not pay their yearly levy. We applaud WCSHC’s efforts to inform conference attendees to pay their property taxes.”
Attorney Andreas Barnes represented MCJ and delivered a presentation on heirs’ property, which drew massive interest from conference attendees. Individuals solicited advice and handouts from MCJ representatives. Members of MSPAG took the initiative to distribute bags filled with important information and small gifts to remind the 658 conference attendees to pay their property taxes.
Finally, WCSHC presented the Fourth Episcopal District and Bishop Kenneth Carter with a plaque for their unwavering support in saving rural America.
