The Winston County Self Help Cooperative staff planted watermelon plants through our Leafy Green Project on April 24th, 2024. Alonzo Miller and I followed the process below:
- Till the ground to loosen the soil, establish the rows, and integrate fertilizer.
- Pour 8-8-8 and cottonseed meal (excellent nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium sources) into the dug rows.
- Use the tractor to cover the fertilizer with soil.
- Plant the watermelon plants in the ground.
By cultivating these watermelon plants, we aim to address food insecurity and promote self-sufficiency in the community.
