The month of April offers showers and crisp cool mornings as the weather pattern shifts from north to south. This idyllic weather system across the weekend allowed Mother Nature to help Winston County Self Help Cooperative’s Strawberry crop to ripen. On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, WCSHC staff members Mayla Odom and Pamela O’Bryant journeyed to WCSHC’s demonstration farm with a mission to harvest the strawberries. After walking through the gates, this duo found plenty of red strawberries to be picked.

WCSHC staff members have diligently harvested the strawberries every three days. Each harvest has yielded nearly three gallons of strawberries. After completing the harvest, Pamela thoroughly washed the strawberries, and Mayla bagged the berries for distribution.

WCSHC staff shared the strawberries with the following offices, Winston County Extension, Tax Assessor, Circuit Clerk, and Chancery Clerk. Additionally, the tag team gifted the Winston County Journal Newspaper staff with berries. The recipients were very appreciative of receiving the bounty from WCSHC.

WCSHC strives to promote food security and encourages individuals to start their own personal garden. When you can feed yourself, you can improve your family overall health and save on grocery bill. We are the WCSHC, and we are committed to “Help Save Rural America.”
