Tuesday 30 June 2026

The Winston County Self Help Cooperative continued its unrelenting, 2026 Delinquent Property Taxes Campaign on Monday, June 29, 2026, 5:30pm, at the co-op’s campus 2948 Highpoint-Weir Rd, Louisville, MS. The co-op members and community engagers thumbed through the tax roll and found delinquent individuals. These individuals will receive notices to pay their property taxes.

Natasha Walker, Winston County Tax Assessor and Collector dispersed pertinent information to help attendees understand delinquent property taxes. She emphasized and highlighted the necessity of paying your property taxes yearly. Attendees were verbally reminded that an interest penalty will be assessed, per month, until the property taxes are paid in full. We appreciate the interest earned, however, our goal is for individuals and families to buy homes, not to place their homesteads in jeopardy for not paying their taxes on time. We are encouraging everyone today to start preparing to pay their 2026 property taxes. My office normally mails out the property taxes notices in November.”

Frank Taylor, WCSHC Team Leader recounted his first engagement with delinquent property taxes, which occurred in August of 1983. He said, “I was at the Winston County Courthouse validating voter registration applications and precinct locations. After completing this formidable task, I started meandering towards the front doors and moved towards a small group of individuals standing in a circle. I paused and inquired about the activity. Mr. Carter, a participant, gave me a quick overview of the process of how to take part in the delinquent property taxes auction. Yes, we stood outside in August’s sultry heat for five hours until the last bids were completed and turned in. This was my first formal lesson about the delinquent property taxes.” On this day more than three hundred parcels received bids. Frank highlighted his forty-five years of experience helping individuals and families to preserve their homesteads. He said, “This work is time consuming and repetitive. In some cases, you will be extremely disappointed with the ultimate outcome after spending an enormous amount of energy to end the delinquent property taxes debacle.”

Hubert Nicholson said it’s incumbent upon the cooperative members to remind individuals to pay their property taxes.WCSHC will continue its efforts to build sustainable communities and healthy families.

Frank reiterated the need for individuals and families to pay their delinquent taxes before the impending deadline. The delinquent property taxes auction will occur on Monday, August 31,2026. This will be an electronic auction. You must register to take part in the auction. Fank thanked Natasha Walker, Winston County Tax Assessor and Collector and the attendees for taking part and working collectively to help rural America.
