Warner Hall Farm Surviving the Cold

Tuesday 07 January 2025

Meteorologists across the southeast predicted and forecasted a mild winter with above-average temperatures in the first quarter of 2025. However, Old Man Winter devises a different scenario in the year’s first week. Weather conditions started shifting on Saturday, January 4, 2025, as intense storms inundated the state of Mississippi with thunder, winds, and numerous sighted tornadoes. This weather pattern tormented Mississippi for seven hours, which resulted in downed trees, snapped utility poles, and other unfathomable situations. These adverse weather conditions propelled farmers to protect their farm entities.

Warner Hall Farm of Greensburg, LA, started preparing for the arctic blast with an attitude of “get it done” before the bitter cold arrived. Warner and the crew harvested more than 100 bunches of broccoli, collard, and mustard greens. “We will return on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and complete the harvest of the remaining collard greens. I believe this crop of greens will survive and rebound from this wave of cold weather. I am on the verge of placing seeds in trays for starter plants. I plan to start transplanting in late February 2025, and I hope this year’s crop will be as productive,” Warner said.
