The Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund (FSC) is a 57-year-old cooperative association of Black farmers, landowners, and cooperatives across the South. It held its annual meeting on August 15-17, 2024, at the training center in Epes, Alabama. FSC’s mission is to catalyze the development of self-supporting communities through cooperative economic development, land retention, and advocacy. FSC envisions sustainable rural communities supported by a network of farmers, landowners, and cooperatives based on local control and ownership.
Winston County Self Help Cooperative members gathered at the Walmart Parking Lot in Louisville, MS, Friday, August 16, 2024, at 5:45 am. As the eastern horizon appeared, WCSHC members started planning a day of intent learning. Allen McReynolds served as the transportation pilot to arrive safely and be on time for the 57th-year celebration. WCSHC calvary touched down at the training facility before 8 am. WCSHC members dressed in their familiar green t-shirts and wore straw hats to repel the August sunshine. Friday’s session included speakers from USDA, extension, CBOs, and other agriculture specialists.
