Randy Miller, Anthony Davis, and Howard Davis are on a task to manage their health by consuming locally grown vegetables and meats. This trio of gentlemen have several common traits as hunters, anglers, and sports men. However, the most important thread, they are grandsons of the legendary Mr. Isaac Miller. My description and definition of Mr. Isaac would be the first “Renaissance Man.” Mr. Isaac was a mechanic, farmer, and a farm advocate. He was one of the first individuals in the Greensboro Community to own a tractor. Therefore, he would till the soil for most farmers in the community. Additionally, Mr. Isaac worked for the local brickyard company on the evening shift. Although he transitioned more than forty years ago, the Isaac Miller legacy continues today through his grandsons Randy, Anthony, and Howard Jr. Randy is the chosen captain of this trio. Randy said “we work collectively on projects to support our families. Continuity is an important asset to have to become a member of this team. We worked several types of jobs to support our families. We were raised in Greensboro under the guidance of our parents, grandparents, and the community’s elders. We learned the art of surviving by watching and listening to the older individuals in the Greensboro Community. We learned the techniques of hunting and fishing to feed our families. We are thankful to have learned those survival skills.
Today, Saturday, Sept 28, 2024, we are harvesting Cornish Cross Hens. The process of growing and producing them is seven weeks. These hens are grown in a pasture poultry system. Howard handles feeding and rotating the hens. We have a special feed cocktail which produces quality hens. Howard said, “We are extremely concerned about what we consume. Randy and I are diabetics. Therefore, we want to minimize our purchases from grocery stores. We love working together as a team member. Everyone has a specialized skill set. Anthony “Pumpkin” Davis is the head butcher. Randy emphasized that they would keep Mr. Isaac Miller’s legacy alive.
