Greensboro Community (GBC) and Zion Ridge Community (ZRC) combined efforts to remove litter along the roadsides during the school’s spring break period. Individuals gathered at the former Greensboro Christian Methodist Episcopal Church site on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 8:30 am.

Joann Miller-Eiland and Sharonne Cooper rallied the troops for a morning of intent removal of paper, tires, mattresses, dressers, and appliances from along the roadsides in GBC and ZRC. Joann said, “We are working collectively to eliminate this major eyesore of litter off the roadsides in our communities and neighborhoods. We are extremely fortunate to have support from Greensboro and Zion Ridge residents. This team effort will stimulate goodwill and create an environment of hopefulness.” Sharonne recounted this profound statement: “We can, and we will get it done for both communities.”

The phenomenal gathering of concerned citizens occurred on a cool Saturday morning. Jimmy “Bluesman” Hopkins, Crandall “Cran” Hopkins, and Carl “Pee Wee” Hopkins set the tone for the event. They arrived early with bags and trailers before the appointed starting time. This indicator lifted the clouds and allowed the sun to radiate warmth among the participants. As the clock’s hands swung towards 9:00 am, individuals assembled in groups for instructions. Participants received gloves and bags before dispersing for the arduous task of removing the litter.

Patricia Miller-Ball and the sisters of soul group traversed west. They tackled Greensboro Road, John “Bone” Edwards, Randell Woodard, Triston “Snoopy” Edwards and their crew collected on Metts Street, Sharonne Cooper, Vont Goss, Brandon Coleman, and Richard Frazier worked the Union Chapel Rd, Tony “Orlando” Cistrunk, Willie “Chill” Dotson, Terry “Bird” Miller, Steve Ball, Jamal Coleman, Jimmy Jackson, and others orchestrated the cleaning of Major Brown Rd, Eddie Joe Miller, Elaine Hobson, Terry Cummings, Marcus Holmes, Genothia “Boss Hog” Rush, and Darnell Triplett led the charge onto Davie Road. The fantastic four, Carol Hopkins, Emma Goss and Krystal Young, Alida Hunt, and others, collected along Metts Street Extension, and the City of Louisville Crew cleaned Miller Avenue. After three hours of diligent work, participants returned to the gathering site for a tasteful meal prepared by Atavius “Duck” Cobb and Cordell “Smoke” Ellis.

Joann and Sharonne thanked everyone for participating in Greensboro and Zion Ridge’s annual cleanup event. Furthermore, we want to thank Treba Harsley Davis for photographing this historic event. We also appreciate the support from Floyd Miller, Supervisor District Four, Will Hill, Mayor, Assistant Police Chief Edward Hunt, and the city of Louisville for helping to beautify. “We can, and we will keep Winston County clean.”
