One sunny day in April, I decided to till my garden and prepare the ground for planting my spring vegetables. As I was making rows in the garden, my friend, Mr. Quaylin Page, stopped by. He saw what I was doing and asked if he could help. I gladly said yes.
That is when the questions began. He wanted to know what he could plant, which vegetables were the easiest to grow, what type of soil he should use, and much more. I suggested tomatoes because they are a popular choice for many gardeners, but he had his heart set on growing watermelons.
After leaving my house, he went to Walmart and bought a small pool, some watermelon seeds, and soil. When he got home, he planted the seeds. About two weeks later, he began to see tiny seedlings popping up through the soil. He was so excited to see them growing.
From that day on, he proudly started calling himself “The Watermelon Man.”
