The morning of March 31, 2025, was cloudy, rainy, and wet, but that did not stop the Winston County Self Help Cooperative (WCSHC) members from answering the call and showing up for the General Meeting.
Mr. Taylor, WCSHC Team Leader, displayed past NAACP Banquet videos while the members arrived for the meeting. Mr. Taylor opened the meeting with a prayer by Rev. Annie Thomas. Mayla Odom followed with WCSHC’s first-quarter event highlights. We hosted Save Rural America Conferences across the South, delivered a heirs’ property workshop, co-sponsored the Greensboro clean-up, planted cabbage transplants, delivered a WCSHY Exploring A Day in Ag, and held a fire safety workshop for the youth. WCSHC has been busy empowering and touching lives in the community.
Next, Mr. Allen and Reverend Miller provided an update on the strawberries planted in the high tunnel. Mr. Allen reported that the strawberries were a good crop, that they were expecting a great harvest, and needed to be harvested twice a week. Mr. Taylor harvested the first yield of strawberries and shared them with the members. Then, Mr. Miller provided an update on the cabbages, and he also expects a great harvest.
The informative meeting encouraged the members to continue the work to save Rural America.
