What is love? Love is an action word that goes beyond simple affection; it is service, compassion, patience, unity, and care for others. On February 12, 2026, two days before Valentine’s Day, the Winston County Self Help Cooperative celebrated the definition of LOVE. Our members, friends, and other sister organizations came dressed in their best red outfits to celebrate this occasion. Indeed, the event served as a reminder that love is not only shared between a husband and wife but also expressed through fellowship, service, and celebrating unity within the community.

The outreach program began with Ms. Arlexis Yarbrough delivering a heartfelt welcome, setting the tone for the day. Ms. Ann Kelly gave the purpose; she emphasized the importance of love for one another. Revered Lee Mark Taylor blessed us with a prayer. Ms. Pamela Obryant read an inspiring poem by the late Maya Angelou titled “Touched by an Angel, ” which reminded us that true autonomy requires surrender to something greater than self, and love demands everything, yet it grants us freedom. Mrs. Mayla Odom rendered a beautiful rendition of “The Greatest Love of All!”

The speaker for the day was Ms. Monica, a registered nurse with the G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center in Canton, MS. Ms. Monica has been a nurse for over 35 years; her message was insightful and informative. She expounded on how to maintain a healthy body through exercise, healthy eating, seeking mental health support, and adhering to their provider’s instructions. She stressed the importance of reducing stress. “If it is something you cannot do about, drop and move forward; you can do something about, do it and move forward!” Prolonged stress can wear down the body both mentally and physically. Therefore, one should engage in positive activities such as exercise, social clubs, and finding new hobbies. Lastly, Ms. Monica emphasizes the importance of being honest with your provider about your medical history. Leaving our key information can be detrimental, leading to one’s demise.

T’arie “T” Todman opened her recap by having the audience stand and engage in physical activity for 30-plus seconds. Everyone stood and moved around; they enjoyed engaging one another. She is also a pharmacist; she encouraged the crowd to ensure they take their medications and to share medication allergies with the pharmacy team to avoid further complications. In November, T encouraged the members to be more mindful of sharing love. She asked the crowd how they are doing with showing more love, and most responded, “GREAT.” She continued with a message of inspiration and positivity, encouraging everyone to remain purposeful in loving one another.
Announcements were made for the upcoming weeks. Most importantly, everyone was reminded to get their Spring garden ready for planting. Pastor Willie Matthews blessed the food and gave a benediction.
Special thanks are extended to the G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center for attending and for providing glucose testing and blood pressure checks. We also appreciate the cooks, Sharonne Cooper and Octavious Cobb, for preparing such a wonderful meal, and a heartfelt thanks to Ms. Emma Goss for assisting the kitchen staff.
