On April 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., the Winston County Self Help Cooperative collaborated with Kristi Jernigan of Louisville High School to host a mock interview session at the Winston County Self Help Campus at 2949 Highpoint-Weir Rd, Louisville, MS 39339.
A total of 30 twelfth-grade students participated in the event. Kayla Taylor of MDES delivered a 10-minute presentation on key steps for a successful interview. She emphasized that appearance is the first thing an interviewer notices, the importance of introducing yourself with a firm, confident handshake, and how to respond appropriately to common questions such as “Tell me a little about yourself,” and noted that students should avoid sharing personal details like their age.

This information is especially valuable as the students prepare to graduate, seek employment while attending college, and build professional skills for their future careers.
A total of six interviewers from various professions participated to create a realistic interview experience: James Jordan, Tierra Murff, LPN, SSG Tremond Miller, Kayla Taylor (MDES), Amy Young (MSU Extension), and Freda Jones, Career Coach at Louisville High School. The goal was to simulate real-world interview conditions, allowing students to engage in one-on-one conversations with professionals in fields they are interested in.

The WCSHC and Louisville High School are committed to empowering our youth and preparing them for future success. They already possess the skills—they simply need guidance, support, and reassurance that we are invested in their growth and achievements.
