The weather in Mississippi has been warm to freezing. North Mississippi in Caroll County is experiencing snow and extremely cold temperatures in the teens, which could devastate our homeowners, ranchers, and farmers. These temperatures could also cause significant issues for cattle, such as cold stress, frostbite, and hypothermia. Proper nutrition can help cattle stay warm during this cold season.

Claude Elam and his family are persevering through this time by practicing philosophical needs. Claude is a cattleman and protects his investment by constantly supplying hay and feeding them cottonseed every other day. Claude says, “I have a couple of ponds that froze over the top, but I’m very fortunate to have some flowing creeks close by that never freeze.”
