My Greensboro Family: A Day in the Life

The week of October 13-19, 2024, presented challenges and opportunities to do good deeds for humankind. After finishing paying most of my weekly and monthly bills on Friday, I started debating my agenda for this weekend’s activities. I had some small details to finish up along Interstate 55 and State Highway 25.  After completing those tasks, I was cleared to go directly to Greensboro and New Zion Communities.

Saturday morning required my honorable attention to be with the Welch Family in Ackerman, MS, as they bid farewell to their loved one. Please remember the Welch Family and be respectful as they go through the grieving process. On my return to Louisville, I started thinking about the importance of family and friends. Life will throw you curveballs and present you with unsettling situations. You will need spiritual and human support to overcome these unforeseen adversities.

After crossing the Highway 15/25 bridge, I made a right turn onto Greensboro Road, where I spent the next six hours visiting with my Greensboro Family. My first stop was at the Hardin Family home on Davie Road. The Hardin Brothers (Walter & Clyde) were cleaning freshwater fish on the east side of the house. We chatted for more than two hours. We discussed all matters, from being knucklehead boys to loving our families. After Virginia Hardin-Donald and Essie B. Hunt arrived, Clyde cooked a fish meal. Also, they celebrated their oldest sister’s (Minnie) 75th birthday.

As the clock’s hands shifted past 4 pm, I moved west on Davie Road and visited Shelton and Sandra Cooper. We gathered in their driveway for an hour of conversation about our community, WCSHC, and family. The highlight of my visit was watching Sandra feed their flock of chickens. Sandra said the chickens provide fresh eggs for the family.

As the afternoon trended toward darkness, I parted ways with the Coopers and traveled over to Major Browns Road for Jimmie (Bluesman) Hopkins’ 60th birthday celebration. The Greensboro Community honors Bluesman and his family for keeping the community litter-free. Congratulations to the entire Hopkins Family and friends for celebrating Bluesman’s birthday. I had a wonderful experience talking with old and new friends. Participants were respectful and adhered to the boss lady’s request to clean the grounds. Individuals were reminded to vote and received campaign literature.

This day of activities reminded me why it is very important to have friends. Thank you, Greensboro, for allowing me to hang out on Saturday, October 19, 2024. I love my Greensboro Family.
