Winston County Self Help Cooperative (WCSHC) hosted an Emergency Forest Restoration Program conference call on April 29, 2024, at 8 pm. Sixty-nine individuals dialed in to hear from Emund Woods, Farm Service Agency, Supervisor (pictured above), and Leslie Peavy, Farm Service Agency, Program Coordinator. They delivered pertinent information to help our targeted audience shuffle through this disaster declaration. Emund stated that your farm must be registered with FSA to participate in this program. Emund emphasized that heirs’ property qualifies for participation. The first step is to visit your local FSA office and complete the application requirements; you must identify potential areas of damage. FSA’s staff will correlate information through their GIS. FSA’s staff members will visit the location to verify damages. This information will be passed on to the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) personnel for further evaluation. MFC staff will determine practices needed to restore your forestland. Numerous CBOs will host follow-up meetings across Mississippi in the upcoming weeks.
