On Friday, February 7, 2025, Winston County Self Help Cooperative (WCSHC) hosted its Save Rural America Conference at Holmes County Career and Technical Center, an agricultural education and opportunity hub. The event brought together students, industry professionals, and key agricultural organizations to highlight the vast opportunities available in the field of agriculture.

Several esteemed partners and vendors participated in the conference, offering valuable insights into the many paths within the agricultural sector. Representatives from Alcorn State University, the Mississippi Forestry Commission, the USDA, the Mississippi Federation of Cooperatives, the Museum of Natural Science, Mississippi State Extension, Future Farmers of America, and the Alcorn Agri-Research Program were in attendance. These organizations provided information on educational programs, career opportunities, and cooperative initiatives supporting rural communities’ agricultural growth.

One of the major focal points of the conference was the role of educational institutions in fostering the next generation of agricultural professionals. Alcorn State University and Mississippi State University representatives shared details about their agriculture programs, emphasizing research opportunities, scholarships, and career pathways that students can explore.

Cooperative groups and government agencies also underscored their commitment to rural sustainability and economic development through agriculture. The Mississippi Forestry Commission and USDA discussed forestry management, land conservation, and financial assistance programs available to aspiring farmers and landowners. The Mississippi Federation of Cooperatives highlighted the significance of community-driven agricultural initiatives and cooperative efforts in ensuring economic stability for farmers.

WCSHC remains dedicated to its mission of equipping rural communities with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in agriculture. By hosting events like the Save Rural America Conference, the organization continues to bridge the gap between aspiring agricultural professionals and the wealth of opportunities available within the industry.

As agriculture continues to evolve, conferences like this serve as an essential platform for students and young professionals to connect, learn, and ultimately contribute to the future of farming and rural development. WCSHC extends its gratitude to all participating organizations for their unwavering support and commitment to fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders.
