Cattle Field Day: Elam

Elam’s Farm

Meet Mr. Claude Elam. He lives between the rolling hills west of Interstate 55 and the beginning of the Mississippi Delta’s flat lands. Claude has served his community in numerous capacities, including assisting the principal, teacher, and bus driver in the local school system. Additionally, Claude coached track, basketball, and football at J. Z. George High School in North Carrollton, MS, for thirty-one years.

Although Claude has retired from the school system, he manages his cattle operation and grows timber. Claude loves being a manager of God’s natural resources. Claude obtained technical and financial assistance through the Natural Resources Conservation Service to install the following conservation practices on his farm: concrete feeding pads, cross fencing, and subsoil drainage. He also received a forest management plan through NRCS. These practices have helped Claude increase profitability from his agriculture entities.

Claude said, “Retirement allows me an opportunity to spend quality time with my grandson Cameron and share Elam Farm’s philosophy.”

Claude and Maxine are inviting you and your family to participate in their educational farm field day. Resource providers from USDA and other agencies will deliver presentations.
