On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Winston County Self Help Cooperative (WCSHC) team traveled to the Holmes County Career Technical Center in Holmes County to assist Ms. Artrista Stafford with the Agriculture Summer Camp.

Ms. Stafford began the session by asking the students questions about what they had learned from previous presenters. The students shared information about wildlife, including beavers, brown bears, rabbits, and white-tailed deer. They also discussed how brown bears protect wildlife in certain areas and that laws are in place to protect endangered and threatened species.

Today’s presenter was Mr. Edd Blake from Mississippi Coding. Mr. Blake introduced the students to the world of drones. He demonstrated how drones operate and allowed each student the opportunity to participate in flying the drones.

Mr. Blake explained how drones are used in agriculture, including applications such as fertilizing and watering crops, surveying land, monitoring fields, and assisting farmers with other agricultural tasks.

The students were excited to learn about drone technology and its connection to the future of agriculture. The experience provided them with hands-on learning and showed them how technology continues to play an important role in farming and land management.
