This field day featured a partnership with Winston County Self Help Cooperative, Alcorn State University, Natural Resources Conservation Service and National Agricultural Statistics Service. Participants received current and relevance information to make informed decisions of managing their natural resources.
With a gentle breeze flowing southward, small farmers and landowners from across the region descended onto Joseph and Vivian Sanders’ Farm in Forest, MS for Scott County Small Farmers’ and Landowners’ Field Day on Monday May 23, 2016, 6pm. This learning session allowed individuals opportunities to speak with service providers from Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Winston County Self Help Cooperative, Alcorn State and Mississippi State Extension Programs.
Leon Fountain, Jr of Scott County Small Farmers and Landowners Organization received five nannie goats May 25, 2016 from Leon Stephen of Winston County Self Help Cooperative. Leon Fountain will pass on five health goats to a member of SCSFLO in a timely manner.
Scott County Small Farmers and Landowners Organization met Thursday June 30, 2016, 6pm at Little Rock M. B. Church 642 Tallabogue Road Forest, MS 39074 with 23 individuals in attendance. Frank Taylor, Winston County Self Help Cooperative, Team Leader elaborated on the needs for individuals to participate in local governmental and civic meetings. Alan Crosswhite of USDA Rural Development discussed housing grants and housing loans. He expanded 504’s loan and grants. Also, Allen differentiated between a direct and guaranteed loan.
